REGGAE is A MISSION, not a COMPETITION

Documentary ” Music is a Mission, not a Competition” by Laura Giordano

I made the documentary for an assessment of Digital Video Production for the MA. Despite the teacher tried to discourage me by saying that my project was too ambitious. As you can see it, I did it anyway because I saw it as a challenge, and honestly, the attitude  “I can’t do it” is not part of my personality. Therefore, as a Reggae music lover and England being the land that helped the evolution of this music, I decided to describe the path of Reggae from the early stages of Ska up to today in England. I like spreading knowledge and consciousness about the music we listen to because I m sure there are thousands of people that listen to reggae or any other genre of which they don’ t have any clue about how it’s started and why. For me is very important knowing as much as possible about everything we are passionate about. Anyway, I decided to explain to the people the journey of this music, from Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, and Dancehall today and the value of the Sound System brought in England by Caribbeans immigrants. Without Sound Systems, people couldn’t listen to Reggae because it was banned from the radio. So, the best vehicle to spread it was live music, so Sound Systems.
